How did you get started in dance, and were there any specific moments or people that inspired you to pursue it professionally?
I danced recreationally as a kid but as a teenager I got more serious about it and started in competitive dance and then adding a ballet training program as well. I really needed both to catch up. I wanted to be good at dance but I had no idea I could be a professional dancer.
Name some muses that keep you motivated — not specifically dancers.
I’m inspired by anything beautiful from nature to architecture. Seeing lines, shapes, and movement inspires my movements. I have a need to express my feelings through dance and when I hear music it drives me to move.
What does a usual day look like for you when you’re dancing?
I start each morning with a light stretch and core exercises. I like to eat a smoothie with my homemade almond milk and homemade granola. Then I’ll go to the studio and train. After training I like to nourish myself with a balanced meal including fresh veggies and a clean protein.
Can you share a unique or memorable moment you’ve had whilst dancing?
I’ll never forget when I was dancing at a music festival and I saw a woman in the front row so inspired she was in tears.
How do you maintain your energy and fitness while travelling? Do you have any go-to routines or meals?
When traveling I always keep up my morning routine of stretching and abs and I always travel with my blender. I’ll even make smoothies in the hotel room
What are some of the most exciting or rewarding projects you’ve worked on in your career so far?
It’s always an honor whenever I get to choose my own costume, music, and choreography for shows. Luckily, I’ve got to do that a handful of times and perform hundreds of shows. It feels really good when someone trusts your crazy ideas. Like this year, I wanted to perform a comedy act with roller skates and a boombox. At first they were confused why I would want to speak on a microphone while dancing on skates but they trusted me and it’s been super fun with audiences.
Have you had the opportunity to work with any artists or choreographers who have significantly impacted your career?
I took a break from ballet for a couple years because I had achilles tendonitis that wouldn’t go away. I had a teacher and friend, Christen Edwards that encouraged me to get back in ballet. She told me “just do 10% each time and slowly work back up to doing a full class”. From there, I slowly built the strength again and she helped me point my feet in a new way to not put as much strain on my achilles. I’m so glad she got me back into ballet because it’s helped me be the professional dancer I am today. My feet point better than they did at the beginning of my career too.
Can you share any particularly challenging or gratifying performances or choreography you’ve been involved with?
One show that was particularly gratifying and challenging was when we did a contemporary version of the ballet Firebird. Choreographed by Robert Dekkers. His movement is complex and requires so much leg strength with all the floor work.
What are you currently working on or planning for the future?
Currently I’m expanding my art into new directions. I’ve been making costumes for fire dancing made out of leather. I’m also working on my side career as a nude art model and dance model. I’m planning to offer prints soon and hopefully a book in the future.
Do you have any upcoming performances or collaborations that you’re excited about?
I'm really excited for a modeling trip coming up in Medocino, CA where I’ll be out in nature. This is the type of work that excites me lately. Although I love the stage and beautiful lights, nature is what actually drives me.
How do you stay motivated and inspired when working on new projects or routines?
To keep my motivation and inspiration when working on new projects I think it’s important to continue to put small efforts in each day. Even if the inspiration isn’t there that day. Consistent efforts all adding up. Sometimes once I just get going and start the process then inspiration comes.
What are some of your favourite dancewear or accessories that you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my booties. Dancer essential to keep my feet warm. I have a pair at the theater and at home.
Which CXIX garments that you love/find especially useful or comfortable for dancing?
Some of my favorite CXIX garments are the Baddies T-shirt with Anime Pole Dancer Sweatpants and the Buckle Up Garter Top with Buckle Up Bottoms. I could keep going as I have so many favorites.
Do you have any essential items you always bring with you when travelling or on tour?
I always travel with my mini blender, yoga mat, exercise bands, my favorite essential oils, a cozy blanket and a blindfold.
When is your birthday?
11/11.
